NAT FLEISCHER. TLS: "Nat Fleischer", 1p, 8x10. New York, 1928 January 31.Letterhead of "The Ring/America's Foremost Boxing Magazine". To J. Austen Shay, Lebanon, Pa. Most of the first line is missing, but Fleischer seems to be returning a "photograph as it is not clear enough, there being too much black behind the picture. If you send me a good, clear picture of Layman, I will be pleased to publish it in the April issue." A founder of "THE RING" magazine in 1922, NAT FLEISCHER served as president and publisher until his death in 1972. Fleischer not only refereed and judged more than a thousand fights, but participated in the awarding of championship belts and assisted in establishing boxing commissions throughout the world. LAYMAN was probably Joe Layman who fought in the 1920s. Fragile. Major surface wear has partially erased recipient's address and first line of text. Numerous "worm" holes. Nicked right edge. Horizontal folds, none at signature but partial separation at 1 fold at left and right margins. Signature not touched by defects.
