NED JACOB
Declining to send a free drawing, he writes that "anything that is of
quality I must sell for my livelihood ... while work that lacks quality goes in
the can to keep it from view".
Autograph Letter signed: "Ned Jacob", 1 page, 8½x11.
Denver, Colorado, 1976 January 13. On personal letterhead to "Dear Mr.
Andrews", in full: "Sorry I am late in replying to your kind note
of 10-10-75. I have been out of the country and am trying to find the bottom of
my mailbag which is proving to be a chore. One is always grateful that his work
is appreciated and the praise in your letter is much appreciated. I'm sorry that
I don't have something to send your way but anything that is quality I must sell
for my livelihood and even small drawings are in demand. Work that lacks quality
goes in the can to keep it from view so ... [ellipses in original] Good
luck with your work. Sincerely". American artist Ned Jacob (b. 1938)
opened his studio in Denver in 1966. He is a champion of the realist
tradition in art, explaining, "If it looks good - it is good." He earned fame
for his paintings and drawings of Western Americana, including his American
Indian costume art. He is a member of the Cowboy Artists of America, and
the National Academy of Western Art. Not content with this broad palette, he
has traveled worldwide to portray traditional cultures from Fiji to
Kenya. Normal mailing folds. Otherwise, fine condition.
