Advertisement signed: "Ned Sherrin" in black ink. 5½x7¾ promotional flyer for Sherrin's show Salad Days at the Richmond Theatre in Surrey, England. Originally pursuing a career as a lawyer, Ned Sherrin (1931-2007) took an interest in theatre and acting early in his career, making the switch full time by the founding of independent television in 1956. He joined the BBC in 1957 as a production assistant, which ultimately became one of the major facets of his entertainment career, acting as producer on series such as Tonight (1957), That Was the Week That Was (1962), and Song by Song (1978). His ventures into television production also landed him a number of hosting and presenter roles on several series throughout his career. Sherrin also worked heavily in theatre productions, directing a producing several West End plays, winning an Olivier Award in 1984 for directing and conceiving The Ratepayers' Iolanthe, and earning a Tony nomination for the overseas production of Side by Side by Sondheim on Broadway. The director and producer also wrote several books during his lifetime, including two autobiographies, collections of anecdotes, and fiction. He continued to work and perform for most of his life until his throat cancer robbed him of his voice and forced him into retirement. Light surface creases. Slightly toned. Corners rounded.
