Autograph Letter signed: "Neil", 1 page, 5¾x3¾. No place, no date. Addressed in his hand on an un-postmarked envelope to "Alexis Smith/25 Central Park West/New York, N.Y. In full: "Hope you like the play, especially the role of Cara. I think you'd be fabulous in it. Marsha send you her love. Warmest regards". Fine condition. Accompanied by 6x4 envelope addressed by Simon. Lightly worn at edges. Toned and soiled. Otherwise, fine condition. Playwright Simon (1927-2018) has won three Tony Awards for Best Play (The Odd Couple, 1965; Biloxi Blues, 1985; Lost in Yonkers, 1991), a Pulitzer Prize (Lost in Yonkers, 1991), two Emmys for his television writing and a 1978 Golden Globe for his screenplay for The Goodbye Girl. His other Tony-nominated Broadway plays include Barefoot in the Park (1964), Sweet Charity (1966), Plaza Suite (1968), Promises, Promises (1969), The Prisoner of Second Avenue (1972), The Sunshine Boys (1973) and They're Playing Our Song (1979). Canadian stage and film actress Alexis Smith (1921-1993) won a Tony on Broadway for Best Actress in a Musical (Follies, 1972) and was nominated for another (Platinum, 1979). However, she never appeared in a Neil Simon play. Marsha Mason, mentioned in the letter, was married to Simon from 1973 to 1981.
