Famed opera singer poses erogenously, signs name in black ink
Inscribed photograph signed: "To Eddie Souza/ Warmest greetings/ Nell Rankin" in black ink. B/w, 8x10. The American operatic mezzo-soprano Nell Rankin (1924-2005) had a very successful international career, but spent the majority of her career performing at the Metropolitan Opera in productions such as Aida (1951) and Carmen (1953). Her singing style was described as a "full and generous tone with bold phrasing, especially in the Italian repertory, and was unique among American mezzos of her generation". Rankin was the first American singer to win the first prize at the International Music Competition in Geneva, raising her profile in the opera world and resulting in invitations to perform at many of the world's best opera houses. Corners rounded. Fine condition.
