US Postal Service display commemorating Opening Day for the New York Mets, April 1, 1996. Special Mets cancellation of a 32-cent US flag stamp. Nelson Doubleday, Jr. (1933-2015)became President of Doubleday Publishing, a firm founded by his grandfather, in 1978. In 1986, Doubleday sold the family publishing business, and became co-owner of the Mets (with Fred Wilpon). That same year he became chairman of the Mets' board, just in time to see the team win its second ever (and last to date) World Series. Doubleday sold his share of the Mets to Wilpon in 2002. Slightly worn at corners. Otherwise, fine condition.
