In full: "Thank you very much for your nice letter and for your kind commends about 'The Phanton'. I am glad you enjoyed it. We are making a new picture called 'Knickerbocker Holiday' with Charles Coburn, Constance Dowling, and Johnny Davis. The film is in costume and the music is not as heavy as in 'The Phantom'. I am to make another guest appearance on the Bell Telephone Hour on November 8th. All good wishes. Sincerely". Tan tone on verso from envelope adhesive shows through faintly at typed text. Horizontal fold crosses signature. Fine condition. Accompanied by unsigned, typed envelope (7½x3¾) to same addressee with Eddy's printed name on flap verso, matching letterhead, postmarked Beverly Hills, October 19, 1943. Top flap torn. Envelope adhesive shows through on verso. Nelson Eddy (1901-1967) performed with the Metropolitan Opera (1924) and was heard in concert and on radio in the early 1930s. Beginning in 1935, he joined Jeanette MacDonald in a singing duo, commonly called "the Singing Sweethearts", which scored one smash hit film musical after another through 1942, including Naughty Marietta, Rose Marie and Let Freedom Ring. Eddy's version of The Phantom of the Opera (1943) co-starred Susanna Foster and Claude Rains. Knickerbocker Holiday, based on the stage musical, is set in 1650 New Amsterdam. Two items.
