First Day Cover signed: "Nicholas deB Katzenbach", 6½x3¾. FDC honoring the 49-Star Flag stamp, 4-cent Flag stamp and 7-cent Alaska Statehodd stamps affixed, postmarked Auburn, N.Y., July 4, 1959, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Former attorney Nicholas DeBelleville Katzenbach (1922-2012) served as Attorney General under Lyndon B. Johnson from February 11, 1965-October 2, 1966. A former associate professor at Yale (1952-1956) and professor of law at the University of Chicago (1956-1960), Katzenbach came to the U.S. Department of Justice as Assistant Attorney General of the Office of Legal Counsel (1961-1962) and was Deputy Attorney General from 1962-1965. Katzenbach, the co-author of The Political Foundations of International Law (1961), later served as Under-Secretary of State from 1966-1969. Slightly creased. Lightly soiled on verso. Fine condition.
