He signs a typed 1965 letter waiving compensation for rebroadcast or
advertising of his TV appearance on the Hy Gardner Show.
Documentary Letter signed: "Nick Adams", 1 page, 8½x11. No place (but
probably New York City), 1965 May 13. Adams has handwritten his Los
Angeles address and phone number in lower right. On the date of the taping,
Adams signs an agreement with Hy Gardner Enterprises, permitting his appearance
on the Hy Gardner show to be taped, rebroadcast and used in promotions without
compensation to him. Adams starred as "Johnny Yuma", a former Confederate
soldier, in The Rebel on ABC from 1959-1961. Among his films were
Mr. Roberts, Picnic and Rebel Without a Cause, and he was
nominated for a Best Supporting Oscar for Twilight of Honor in 1963.
Adams was 36 when he died in 1968 of an overdose of drugs he was taking for a
nervous disorder. Hy Gardner (1908-1989), an entertainment
reporter for the New Yorker Herald Tribune, hosted a TV interview show for
over 30 years, beginning in 1954. Lightly creased and toned at top. Otherwise,
fine condition.
