Nico Castel (1931-2015), born in Portugal and raised in Venezuela, was an opera tenor known for his key supporting roles. After winning the first Joy in Singing Award in New York City in 1958, he debuted with the Santa Fe Opera that same year. He joined the Metropolitan Opera in 1969, performing with that company for 35 years and serving as staff diction coach for a quarter century. Castel, fluent in 6 languages, has over 200 roles in his repertoire, but is even better known as a teacher and dialogue coach, as he was a faculty member at the Julliard and Eastman Schools, and many others. He also translated many librettos. Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
