Rare signature from the French soprano on a Victor Record for a
recording of "JOTA"
Record signed: "Ninon Vallin", in black ink, 11½ diameter.

Seguidilla Murciana". French soprano Ninon Vallin (1886-1961) originally
intended a career as a concert performer, but eventually became an
international success as an opera and operetta performer in a four decade
career. After studying in Paris, Vallin was personally chosen by Claude
Debussy to sing in the first performance of his Le martyre de Saint
Sébastien. The vocalist became a favorite of the composer, also
premiering his Trois poèmes de Stéphane Mallarmé, and appearing in
several other pieces of his. She made her opera debut in 1916 at the
Teatro Colón as Marguerite in Faust, and appeared regularly at the
hall for the next 20 years. Vallin would perform with several other opera
companies during her career, and also proved popular in French operetta. She
continued to perform until the 1950's, and served as a guest professor at the Conservatory in Montevideo until 1959. Record is
cracked through the center, with two pieces of tapes supporting crack on verso.
Soiled. Chip on top of record. Signature very slightly faded. Otherwise, fine
condition.
