Sepia photograph of the man known as a "Villain's Villain", signed and inscribed to a fan
Inscribed photograph signed: "For/my friend/Guy Standing/It's been a pleasure/knowing you & working/ with you. I wish you &/yours healthy-happiness /& luck always/ Sincerely/ Noah Beery/Boss Tweed/ 'Central Park, 5/12/45." . Sepia 8x10. Known as a "villain's villain", Beery (1884-1946, born in Kansas City, Missouri) was the perennial bad guy in silent films including The Mark of Zorro (1920), The Spoiler (1922) and Beau Geste (1927). With the arrival of talkies, he not only talked but sang in comedies such as Cockeyed Cavaliers (1934). Ill health limited the actor to minor roles in the 1940s, when he was overshadowed by his brother Wallace. Toned at edges and verso. Corners lightly creased. Signature light in places but legible. Otherwise, fine condition.
