NOEL NEILL, PHYLLIS COATES, and MARGOT KIDDER
Large adult-size Superman costume (with "3-D Muscle Chest") by Rubies, signed on the emblem by three actresses who played Lois Lane
Ephemera Signed: "Margot Kidder" in black ink, "Noel Neill/ 'The Original'" in black ink and "Phyllis Coates" in silver ink on "S" emblem. Large adult-size Superman costume with "3-D Muscle Chest" by Rubies. Trademarked and ©1997 DC Comics, Inc. This Superman costume is signed by three actresses who played Lois Lane between 1948 and the 1979. Neill played the plucky and perpetually-imperiled reporter in two Superman serials with Kirk Alyn, and both she and Coates played Lane at various points during the George Reeves TV series. Modern audiences are probably most familiar with Kidder, who played Lane in four big-budget Superman movies opposite Christopher Reeve, beginning with the Richard Donner-directed Superman (1978). NOEL NEILL (1920-2016) is an American actress with over 70 TV shows and movies to her credit. Neill made her film debut in 1940. As a child, she wanted to be a journalist like her father. Ironically, her most famous character was a newspaper employee: Lois Lane, Superman's love interest and a journalist at the Daily Planet. She was the first actress to portray Lois Lane, appearing as the character in the 1948 film Superman. Neill reprised the role in Atom Man vs. Superman (1950) and the television show Adventures of Superman (1953-1958). She has made appearances in several superhero productions, including cameos in Superman Returns (2006) and Superboy (1988-1992). Other credits include a series of 1940s Bobby-soxer films that starred Freddie Stewart. PHYLLIS COATES, bornGypsie Ann Evarts Stell in Wichita Falls, Texas in 1927, starred in many B-movies of the 1950s, often westerns and science fiction. After playing Lois Lane in Superman and the Mole Men (1951), she was the first to play Lois in the TV series, The Adventures of Superman (1952). Her numerous TV guest appearances in later years included the role of Lois Lane's mother in the TV series Lois and Clark (1994). MARGOT KIDDER (1948-2018), is best known for her role as Lois Lane in four Superman films starring Christopher Reeve: Superman: The Movie (1978), Superman II (1980), Superman III (1983) and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987). Kidder, who made her film debut in 1969 in Gaily Gaily, has appeared in a number of feature films, made-for-TV movies and on television, most notably in the James Garner series, Nichols (1971-1972). Signatures have bled slightly but are legible. Chest plate and product information card are lightly creased. Red ink stains on belt. Otherwise, fine condition.
