NOEL NEILL
The first actress to portray Lois Lane on film signed this typed note in 1980 to answer a
fan's questions about former co-stars Kirk Alyn, Jack Larson, and George Reeves
Typed note signed "Noel Neill". 1 page, 6¼x8¾ fabric-textured paper. April 9, 1980. In full:
"I hope I can answer your questions - 1. Neither Kirk nor I were asked to play in the first TV series
- Who knows why not. Different producer, different ideas, I guess, or most probably they didn't
know about the movie serials 2. As for George's death, none of know why, because he did not leave
any notes. Everything was going well for him and we were to shoot 26 more chapters that fall 3.
As for Jack's Address, I have it but of course, cannot give it to you. The best I can do is forward
your letter to him. Thank you for your interest in our show and glad you still enjoy it." "Kirk" is
Kirk Alyn, who played Superman in the serials Superman (1948) and Atom Man vs.
Superman(1950). "George" is George Reeves, who played Superman in the 1950s TV series
Superman and whose death on June 16, 1959 was ruled a suicide. Some believe, however, that
he was murdered. "Jack" is Jack Larson, who played Jimmie Olsen in the TV series. Noel
Neill (1920-2016) is an American actress with over 70 TV shows and movies to her credit.
Neill made her film debut in 1940. As a child, she wanted to be a journalist like her father.
Ironically, her most famous character was a newspaper employee: Lois Lane, Superman's
love interest and a journalist at the Daily Planet. She was the first actress to portray Lois
Lane, appearing as the character in the 1948 film Superman. Neill reprised the role in Atom
Man vs. Superman (1950) and the television show Adventures of Superman (1953-1958). She
has made appearances in several superhero productions, including cameos in Superman Returns
(2006) and Superboy (1988-1992). Other credits include a series of 1940s Bobby-soxer
films that starred Freddie Stewart. Lightly creased. Folded twice and unfolded. Otherwise,
fine condition.
