8x6¾. Grimsby, 1961 March 6. Written on her personalized stationery. To "Dear Mr. Jones".
In full: "Thank you so much for your letter and good wishes (also stamped addressed envelope)
written long ago now I fear. Please forgive this delayed reply to your request I but have only
received the enclosed photo(s) this weekend./ Hope you will like this souvenir of 'Orpheus'/ With
best wishes/ Sincerely". Photo not included. Norma Procter (1928-2017) is a contralto famed
for her recordings of the works of Mahler. She studied with the well-known English
baritone Roy Henderson. Although she is primarily known for her oratorio and recital work,
Procter also was featured in operatic performances, most notably Orpheus in 1961 at the
Royal Opera House, Convert Garden. In addition, she sang the role of Lucretia in The
Rape of Lucretia at the 1958 Aldeburgh Festival. Corners and edges worn and creased.
