Signed photo of the Britain's "First Fashion Knight"
Photograph signed: "Norman Hartnell". B/w, 7½x10. British
fashion designer Norman Hartnell (1907-1979) created garments for ladies
of English society from the 1920s, while his sister Phyllis created work day
apparel. Hartnell's house influenced styling worldwide, including the Parisian
designers. In 1940, Hartnell received the patronage of Queen Elizabeth, wife
of King George VI (later the Queen Mother). In 1952, he designed Queen
Elizabeth's coronation gown, and remained the royal family's official
designer until his 1977 retirement. He was knighted that year, dubbed by the
press "the First Fashion Knight." Light surface impressions (not visible
head on). Slightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
