Canadian-born director Norman Jewison (1926-2024) was nominated for Academy Awards
for Best Picture in 1967 (The Russians Are Coming the Russians Are Coming), 1972 (Fiddler
on the Roof), 1985 (A Soldier's Story) and 1988 (Moonstruck) and for Best Director
Oscars in 1968 (In the Heat of the Night), 1972 (Fiddler on the Roof) and 1988
(Moonstruck). He has also been nominated for three Best Director Golden Globes (In the
Heat of the Night, Fiddler on the Roof, The Hurricane), an Emmy Award, a Daytime Emmy
Award and three Directors Guild of America Awards. Jewison, who directed 12 different
actors in Academy Award-nominated performances, broke into directing with such early TV
series as Your Hit Parade, Wayne and Schuster and The Big Party before directing his first film,
The Fabulous Fifties, in 1960. His other film credits include The Thrill of it All (1963), Send Me
No Flowers (1964), The Thomas Crown Affair (1968), Jesus Christ Superstar (1973),
Agnes of God (1985) and The Statement (2003). Jewison has also produced several films
and written scripts and screenplays. He established the Canadian Centre for Advanced
Film Studies in Toronto in 1986. Slightly creased at blank margins, light black mark at upper
left corner. Minor surface creases (not evident head on). Name written (unknown hand) in ink
on verso (no show through). Fine condition.
