Autograph Note signed twice: "Norman Mailer" and on verso "NM", 5x3 card. Signed above his printed name is a typed quotation in full: "I think it's bad to talk about one's present work, for it spoils something at the root of the creative act. It discharges the tension." Below the quotation Mailer has written: "(Over"). On verso is his autograph note: "This is the second one for your sister's birthday. Enough! [initials]. Norman Mailer's first novel, The Naked and the Dead (1948), was a best selling account of combat in World War II. Mailer won two Pulitzer Prizes: the first for The Armies of the Night (1969), a nonfiction narrative about a protest march on the Pentagon; the second for The Executioner's Song (1979), about the life and execution of serial killer Gary Gilmore. Mailer, who co-founded "The Village Voice" and ran for mayor of New York, has published 39 books to date. The outspoken and quarrelsome Mailer, married six times, has his share of detractors, but his literary skills are widely admired. Fine condition.
