NORMAN MAILER
The author signs an envelope commemorating a philatelic exhibition
Commemorative Envelope signed: "Norman Mailer", 6½x3½. Individual stamp and block of four stamps, all honoring the Third International Philatelic Exhibition of 1936, bearing stamp of the exhibition and also postmarked New York, N.Y., May 9, 1936. Norman Mailer's first novel, The Naked and the Dead (1948), was a best selling account of combat in World War II. Mailer won two Pulitzer Prizes: the first for The Armies of the Night (1969), a nonfiction narrative about a protest march on the Pentagon; the second for The Executioner's Song (1979), about the life and execution of serial killer Gary Gilmore. Mailer, who co-founded "The Village Voice" and ran for mayor of New York, has published 39 books to date. The outspoken and quarrelsome Mailer, married six times, has his share of detractors, but his literary skills are widely admired. Lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
