Book inscribed and signed: "My best wishes/to/Carl Gessner/sincerely/Norman/Rockwell". 209p, 9x12. Norman Rockwell, Illustrator, by Arthur L. Guptill. N.Y: Watson-Guptill, 1972. Hardcover, seventh printing. Signed on the half-title page. American artist and illustrator Norman Rockwell (1894-1978) is best known for his realistic and humorous scenes of small town life in America. He painted over 300 covers for the "Saturday Evening Post" (1916-1965) after beginning his career at age 18 as an illustrator for "Boy's Life". Rockwell's art documented American history as well as popular culture. From 1952 through 1968 his paintings of the Presidential candidates were featured on the front of Time and then Look magazine. His paintings celebrating Franklin Roosevelt's "Four Freedoms" - the "freedom from want" painting graces the front cover of this book - are justly celebrated (and frequently parodied). Fine condition.
