NORMAN ROCKWELLAn original drawing done by the illustrator with a black and white image and his autograph Original Art Signed: “Happy/ Birthday/ to/ Robert Lawing/ sincerely/ Norman Rockwell”. The drawing and message is on a 3½x5½ card with a b/w 2¼x3¼ image of Rockwell. Norman Rockwell (1894-1978) captured scenes from American life in his magazine covers and illustrations, often noted for their humorous and accurate depictions of 1940's and 1950's life. Rockwell's drawings, however, were skillfully executed with minute attention to detail and were so realistic that they usually resembled photographs rather than paintings. Hepainted over 300 covers for the "Saturday Evening Post" (1916-1965) after beginning his career at age 18 as an illustrator for Boy's Life. In addition to his many works for the Post, Rockwell illustrated the "Boy Scout Calendar" from 1926-1976. Rockwell published his autobiography, Norman Rockwell, My Adventures as an Illustrator, in 1960. Light chipping on top edge of frame, visible from verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
