NORMAN ROCKWELL
Norman Rockwell types a letter to a friend fan saying that he does
not have any photographs available but will send one when he does.
Typed Letter Signed: "Norman Rockwell", 1p, 5½x6¾.
Arlington, Vermont, 1947 March 27. On his imprinted letterhead to
"Dear Mr. Fischbach". In full: "Thank you so much for your kind
letter of appreciation for my work. I think it was very nice of you to take the
time to write me of your interest in it. I'm sorry but I have no photographs at
the present time but am planning on having some finished and when I do I shall
be most pleased to send you an autographed one. Cordially yours," Norman
Rockwell (1894-1978) captured scenes from American life in his magazine covers
and illustrations, often noted for their humorous and accurate depictions of
1940's and 1950's life. Rockwell's drawings, however, were skillfully
executed with minute attention to detail and were so realistic that they usually
resembled photographs rather than paintings. He painted over 300 covers for
the "Saturday Evening Post" (1916-1965) after beginning his career at age 18 as an
illustrator for "Boy's Life". In addition to his many works for the Post,
Rockwell illustrated the "Boy Scout Calendar" from 1926-1976. Rockwell published
his autobiography, Norman Rockwell, My Adventures as an Illustrator, in
1960. Including original mailing envelope. Fold crease not at signature. Fine
condition.
