NORMAN ROCKWELL
Norman Rockwell types a letter to an admirer about sending him an
autograph picture.
Typed Letter Signed: "Norman Rockwell", 1p, 5½x6¾.
Arlington, Vermont, 1947 May 8. On his imprinted letterhead to "Dear
Mr Broene". In full: "I shall be glad to place your letter on file
and just as soon as I have some pictures made will be glad to autograph one for
you. Thank you for your interest in writing me. Sincerely,". Norman
Rockwell (1894-1978) captured scenes from American life in his magazine covers
and illustrations, often noted for their humorous and accurate depictions of
1940's and 1950's life. Rockwell's drawings, however, were skillfully
executed with minute attention to detail and were so realistic that they usually
resembled photographs rather than paintings. He painted over 300 covers for
the "Saturday Evening Post" (1916-1965) after beginning his career at age 18 as an
illustrator for "Boy's Life". In addition to his many works for the Post,
Rockwell illustrated the "Boy Scout Calendar" from 1926-1976. Rockwell published
his autobiography, Norman Rockwell, My Adventures as an Illustrator, in
1960. Lightly creased with fold, not at signature. Fine
condition.
