index card. In 1928, Norman Thomas (1884-1968) made his first
unsuccessful run for the Presidency as the Socialist candidate. He also ran and
lost in 1932, 1936, 1940, 1944 and 1948, doing best in 1932 when he received
881,951 votes. A moderate, non-Marxist socialist, Thomas campaigned for many
measures that he saw become law: unemployment insurance, minimum wage,
five-day work week and abolition of child labor. Two pinhead sized spots in
blank lower left. Otherwise, fine condition.
