NYDIA WESTMAN
Rare signature from the actress on a vintage still from the 1936 film
Craig's Wife
Inscribed photograph signed: "To Harry Wilkinson/Very best
wishes/always/Nydia Westman", in blue ink, B/w 9¾x8. A character actress
originating from Broadway, Nydia Westman (1902-1970) came into the
film industry during the transition to sound, giving her the opportunity to be
placed in a variety of films that are often considered groundbreaking classics.
Most notable of these film appearances are Craig's Wife (1936)
and Little Women (1933). However, Westman would find her greatest
success in more lighthearted roles, and would continue to appear in minor and
guest appearances until her last role in 1970's Rabbit, Run.
Intertwined with her television career, Westman continued to perform on
Broadway in the 1940's and 1950's, appearing in Strange Bedfellows
(1948), The Madwoman of Chaillot (1950), and The Emperor's Clothes
(1953). Several pin holes in corners. Corners worn and creased. Lightly
toned. Ink note (unknown hand) on top right corner. Slightly bowed. Photograph
info on verso. Edges slightly worn. Light surface scratches and dents (not seen
head on). Otherwise, fine condition.
