In full: "I am looking forward to reading THE MANDARINS which has not yet reached me I presume because it was sent to my old address and will have to be forwarded. Any how here are my thanks in advance." OGDEN NASH (1902-1971), who is best known for his humorous poetry, started writing advertising copy for Doubleday, Page Publishing in New York in 1925. That year, the company published his first book for children, The Cricket of Caradon. In 1927, three years before Nash's first published poem, "Spring Comes to Murray Hill", appeared in the "New Yorker" magazine, Doubleday merged with George H. Doran Company, becoming the country's largest publisher. Nash, who would write 19 books of poetry and collaborate on a musical comedy (One Touch of Venus, 1943) joined the staff of the "New Yorker" in 1932. His first collections of verse, Free Wheeling and Hard Lines, had been published the previous year. The World Publishing Company had been founded by Alfred H. Cahen, the father of BEN D. ZEVIN's wife, Lillian. Zevin, who joined the firm in 1935, had become President of the company in 1945. Lightly creased and soiled. Paper clip impression at upper margin, receipt stamp at lower margin. Letterhead lightly faded. Overall, fine condition.
