Typed Letter Double Signed: "Ogden Reid" and "O. R.", 1p, 5¾x7¾. New York, New York, 1934 January 24. On letterhead imprinted "New York Herald Tribune" to Mr. Edward Cave, New York City, New York. In full: "Thanks for your cordial letter and also for letting me know of your personal interest in the Tribune. I shall look forward to receiving the 'Boy Scout Hike Book' and accept with pleasure the commission to pass it along to my son. I am sure he will enjoy having it. Very truly yours," In handwritten postscript: "P.S. The book has arrived. Whether you like it or not, I think I shall take a look at it before passing it on. It seems very interesting as well as instructive. Many thanks again." Ogden Rogers Reid (born in 1925) was a U.S. Representative from New York from 1963-1975. A veteran of WWII, he had previously served as U.S. Ambassador to Israel (1959-1961) and as Chair of the New York State Commission for Human Rights (1961-1962). In 1974, Reid chose not to seek re-election, opting instead to become a candidate for the nomination for Governor of New York, but he later withdrew from that race. Fold crease not near signature. Upper left blank corner folded down. Fine condition..
