Photograph Signed: "George Burns", "John Denver", B/w 9x7. The 1997 film Oh, God! follows an assistant manger's life after God appears to him and makes him a messenger for the modern world. GEORGE BURNS (1896-1996, born Nathan Birnbaum in New York City), the star of vaudeville, radio, television and motion pictures, co-starred with his wife Gracie Allen until her retirement in 1958 (she died in 1964), then continued performing in television, theater and nightclubs as a solo act. When he returned to films in 1975 after a 30-year hiatus, Burns won the 1975 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in The Sunshine Boys. He later starred in the title role in Oh, God! (1977) and appeared in Going in Style (1979) and 18 Again! (1988). The comedian, who was honored in television specials celebrating his 90th and 95th birthdays, also wrote Gracie, A Love Story (1988) and 100 Years, 100 Stories (1996). He died in 1996 at the age of 100. One of the most popular recording artists of the 1970s, country-folk singer/songwriter JOHN DENVER's gentle, environmentally conscious music combined with his wholesome, clean-cut appeal, won him fans of all ages and backgrounds. Denver had 12 gold and 4 platinum albums. His "Rocky Mountain High" was made an official state song by the Colorado legislature. He had a parallel career as an actor (1977's Oh, God!). Denver (1943-1997) was awarded the 1997 Grammy Award for Best Musical Album for Children for All Aboard! He died when the experimental aircraft he was flying over Monterey Bay crashed into the sea. Vertical crease near center of photograph (not effecting signature). Lightly toned on verso. Typed caption printed on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
