Signature from the Swedish soprano, dated circa 1914 by the collector
Signature: "Olive Fremstad", 3½x2 card. Pencil note (unknown hand) in lower left: "1914." Swedish-American operatic soprano Olive Fremstad (1871-1951) appeared on many European stages in the 1890s before joining New York's Metropolitan Opera from 1903 to 1914. An accomplished actress as well as vocalist, she was especially known for her Wagnerian roles. She was the first to perform Strauss' Salomé on a US stage, and she sang Carmen opposite Enrico Caruso in San Francisco the night before the earthquake (1906). Slightly toned. Signature slightly bled, but clearly legible. Slightly soiled. Adhesive residue on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
