OLE OLSEN
Ole Olsen sends a typed letter of thanks for a column written in the Los Angeles Evening Herald and Express.
Typed letter signed: "Ole Olsen", 1p, 7x10½, on Ole Olsen and Chic Johnson letterhead. No place, 1943 April 14. To Mr. Jimmy Starr, Los Angeles Evening Herald and Express, Los Angeles, California. In full: "I must admit that your column is evidentially read because in the last couple of days there have arrived at least two dozen copies of the Evening Herald and Express with that banner Olsen and Johnson headline. For this comes our Nordic THANKS. Chic left for a hunting trip in British Columbia this week. My kid brother, Steve Olsen, is taking his place and doing a great job. I expect to leave around the first week in May and as yet they haven't decided what five guys are going to take my place. Anyway, we'll be out in that land of options, priorities and retakes along about the middle of May, and we'll have you out to share some choice victuals I am smuggling out of New York. In the meantime, good luck and colored Eater eggs to you and yours. Cordially," OLSEN & JOHNSON was created in 1914, when Ole Olsen (1892-1963) and Chic Johnson (1891-1962) teamed up in a comedy act that made them very popular on the vaudeville circuit. They appeared in eight films in the 30s and 40s but had their one big success in Hellzapoppin' (1941), a screen version of their 1938-1940 Broadway hit. The film garnered an Oscar nomination for Best Song. Olsen was the father in law of William Lear, who invented the 8-track tape and the Lear Jet. Fold creases not near signature. Rust stain at upper left corner. Overall, fine condition.
