Olympia Dukakis (1931-2021) won the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award and the
Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in 1987 for Moonstruck and was also named
Outstanding Actress in a Feature Film for her performance in The Event (2003). The
co-founder of Boston's renowned Charles Playhouse, Dukakis began her career on the stage
before making her film debut in Lillith in 1964. Her other credits include Steel Magnolias
(1989), Mighty Aphrodite (1995) and Picture Perfect (1997), and Dukakis, the cousin of
1988 presidential candidate Michael Dukakis, has also appeared in several made-for-TV
movies, including the recent The Librarian: Quest for the Spear (2004), and miniseries, and
she guest starred on TV shows from The Nurses (1962) to It's All Relative (2003). Pencil
