ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY: IMOGENE COCA, JOHN CULLEN & MADELINE KAHN
Imogene Coca, John Cullen, and Madeline Kahn sign the cover of the program for
On The Twentieth Century at the St. James Theatre, New York.
Playbill Cover inscribed and signed: "Dear Bob/My Best/Imogene Coca", "John Cullen" and "Madeline/Kahn", 5½x9. Cover of the program for On The Twentieth Century at the St. James Theatre, New York. This musical, with lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, music by Cy Coleman, was based on the play by Ben Hecht, Charles MacArthur and Bruce Milholland. It ran for 449 performances from February 19, 1978 through March 18, 1979. Comic actress IMOGENE COCA (1908-2001) was on stage from 1925 and in films from 1937, often in skits parodying everything from ballet to heavy drama. She is most famous, however, as Sid Caesar's comic partner on TV's Your Show of Shows (1950-1954), winning an Emmy in 1952. Her talents were underutilized in subsequent TV series. Film highlights included a dying aunt in National Lampoon's Vacation (1983). Coca was nominated for a Tony as Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her performance in this play (1978). Lightly soiled. Uneven left edge where page has been torn from program. Stray ink mark at upper right.
