Lyndon B. Johnson's Secretary of Agriculture responds to an Arizona man thanking him for sending birthday greetings.
Typed Letter signed: "Orville L Freeman" as of Secretary of Agriculture, 1 page 8x10½. Washington, 1967 May 15. On letterhead of The Department of Agriculture addressed to Mr. Danny Franklin, Sunnyslope, Arizona. In full: "Dear Danny: Thank you for your birthday greetings. Enclosed is a picture to add to your collection. I do appreciate your kind comments and your best wishes." Orville Lathrop Freeman (1918-2003) served as Governor of Minnesota (1955-1961), and was Secretary of Agriculture under Presidents Kennedy and Johnson (1961-1969). Best known for initiating the Food Stamp Program, Freeman had been an attorney and was a veteran of WWII. Freeman's son, Mike, was a candidate for Governor of Minnesota in 1998. Slightly creased. Slightly soiled at top left. Otherwise, Fine condition.
