ORVILLE REDENBACHER
Signature of the popcorn pioneer
Signature: "Orville Redenbacher", 5x3 card. Known for his trademark glasses and bow tie, Purdue agronomist Orville Redenbacher (1907-1995) was the co-developer and spokesperson for America's first "gourmet" popcorn. After developing the hybrid yellow popping corn known as "Snowflake", which was lighter and fluffier than its predecessors, in his native Indiana in the early 1950s, Redenbacher and his partner, Charles Bowman, developed packaging for their product and first sold it independently to retail grocers. After Hunt-Wesson Foods purchased the successful company (reportedly for $2 million) in 1976, the food conglomerate retained the folksy Redenbacher, whose picture appeared on the labels of his products, as a spokesperson and good-will ambassador. Fine condition.
