by Day" to Charles S. McDaniel, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In full:
"Thank you for your recommendation of the book, Lo. I am sure it must be
very interesting. Sincerely yours". Oscar Odd "O. O." McIntyre (1884-1938),
raised in Gallipolis, Ohio, was a Midwestern newspaper editor before moving to
New York in 1912. Soon he was writing "New York by Day," a column about life
in the City from the perspective of someone from a small town. The column
became immensely popular, carried in over 500 newspapers. His books,
including the best seller The Big Town (1935), were also popular.
He doubled as a publicist for Flo Ziegfeld and others. After McIntyre's
death, his column was continued by other writers until 1951. Lightly creased and
toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
