Document signed "Otto Preminger" for Carlyle Productions, Inc., "Mischa Spoliansky" and "Fred Raphael" for Carlot Music, Inc., all in blue ink.1 page, 8½x11. Jan. 18, 1957. Addressed to Mr. Mischa Spoliansky c/o Dr. Jan Van Loewen, London, England. Titled: "Re: SAINT JOAN". Preminger sent this document to Spoliansky to clarify royalties from sheet music, records and performing rights for his music in Preminger's 1957 movie Saint Joan. This references an earlier contract dated Dec. 13, 1956. Film director PREMINGER (1906-1986), who became an independent producer and director in the early 1950s, was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Director for Laura (1944) and The Cardinal (1963). His films often broke new ground in Hollywood and include Forever Amber (1947), Stalag 17 (1953), The Moon is Blue (1953), Carmen Jones (1954), The Man With the Golden Arm (1955), Porgy and Bess (1959), Anatomy of a Murder (1959), Exodus (1960), Advise and Consent (1962), In Harm's Way (1965) and Tell Me That You Love Me, Junie Moon (1970). Preminger, who produced, directed and staged a number of Broadway plays between 1935 and 1973, was also known to TV audiences for his portrayal of the villainous Mr. Freeze in the Batman TV series (1966-1968). Russian-born SPOLIANSKY (1898-1985) was an important lyricist during Germany's Weimar Republic (he wrote the book and lyrics for the 1928 stage debut of a then-unknown Marlene Dietrich in Es liegt in der Luft). He was also a movie composer, with over 50 credits beginning with the Weimar German film Paganini in 1923 and ending with the 1973 film Hitler: The Last Ten Days. Most of these films are British because Spoliansky, a Jew, fled to Great Britain from Germany in 1933. His music credits there include composing credits for 1937's King Solomon's Mines and songwriting credits for the 1950 remake. Lightly toned and creased.Fold creases not near signature.
