Sale Price $90.00
Inscribed 8x10 color photo, in NASA uniform holding a model space shuttle
Photograph inscribed and signed: "For Gary/Lorenz -/Owen Garriott". Color, 8x10. Captioned in lower margin. Owen Garriott, a Stanford Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, was one of six scientist-astronauts selected in 1965. In 1973, he spent a then record 60 days in space aboard Skylab, repairing the station, studying the sun, the earth's resources, and the effects of prolonged weightlessness. (Confusion surrounds the numbering of Skylab missions. Mission SL-2, Garriott's crew, was the second of three teams to dwell in the station, but a prior team had placed it in orbit. Hence, SL-2 is also known as Skylab-3.) In 1983, he made a 10-day flight aboard Space Shuttle Columbia. He was an administrator at the Johnson Space Flight Center until leaving NASA in 1986 to work with private aerospace companies. More recently he has engaged in scientific research focused on life in extreme environments on earth. Fine condition.
