Asked to identify a quote he lives by, the playwright can't think of
one.
Autograph Letter signed: "Paddy Chayevsky", 1 page, 6x7. No
place, 1980 July 24. On stationery captioned "Notable Thoughts of World
Personalities" (probably sent to Chayevsky), he writes to Maria Sangaro, in
full: "I'm afraid I can't think of any particular quote I live by. Sorry
-" Playwright Paddy Chayefsky (1923-1981), born Sidney Chayefsky, had his
earliest writings published in "The Magpie", the literary magazine of his Bronx
high school, De Witt Clinton. He wrote numerous screenplays for
television in the 1950s (Goodyear Television Playhouse, Philco
Playhouse, etc.) and won three Academy Awards for Best Screenplay for
Marty (1956), The Hospital (1972) and Network (1977).
