Paige Mitchell (1932-2010) was a New Orleans-born novelist whose fiction
dealt with the still touchy but then explosive themes of race relations and
social mores in the American south. A civil rights activist in Jackson,
Missisippi, Mitchell claimed that hostile local reaction motivated her move to
Los Angeles after her first novels The Wilderness of Monkeys (1965)
and Love is Not a Safe Country (1968) were published. In
Hollywood, she became a screenwriter, adapting works such as John Grisham's
legal thriller The Client (brought to television in 1995). Mitchell's
last novel, Wild Seed, appeared in 1982. Lightly creased. Edges lightly
toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
