YANA
The English ballad singer signs her name to a fan with her best
wishes
Autograph note signed: "My/Best/Wishes/for Kayo/Yana", in blue
ink, 4½x3. Unsigned photograph affixed to left margin. English singer Pamella
Guard became better known by her stage name Yana (1932-1989),
performing throughout the 1950's and 1960's on radio, television, and stage. She
began her career as a model who frequented nightclubs and London society, being
first noticed for her singing talents after being invited to sing on stage at a
night club. She was offered a set at the Astor, which helped launch her
career hits "Climb Up the Wall", "If You Don't Love Me", and "Small Talk".
Yana was often seen on television and was used to promote sheet music for
popular songs of the time, often without ever having recorded a version of
the song herself. However, by the late 1960's, her popularity began to fade and
she restricted herself to mostly pantomime and stage performances until
her death from esophagus cancer at the age of 57. Corners slightly worn. Lightly
toned. Light creases. Pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise, fine
condition.
