PAT HINGLE
Black and white headshot of the character actor wearing a suit and tie
Inscribed Photograph signed "To Beth Rubin/ Best Wishes/Pat Hingle". B/w, 8x10. Comic book fans may remember Hingle (1924-2009, born Martin Patterson Hingle in Denver, Colorado) as Commissioner James Gordon in four of the Batman movies from the 1990s: Batman (1989), Batman Returns (1992), Batman Forever (1995) and Batman & Robin (1997). But those four movies don't even scratch the surface of this perennial character actor's career. Hingle had almost 200 movies and TV shows to his credit. He got his start on stage, with 20 career Broadway performances, including roles in the orignal productions of End as a Man (1953-1954), Tennessee Williams' Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1955-1956) and The Dark at the Top of the Stairs (1957-1959), which earned him a Tony Award nomination. Hingle's first movie assignment was an uncredited role in On the Waterfront (1954). Film success didn't come until later in his career, but he was able to parlay his On the Waterfront and theatre experience into numerous TV appearances, including Colonel Tom Parker in Elvis (1979) and J. Edgar Hoover on Citizen Cohn (1992), as well as a brief stint as Dr. John Chapman on Gunsmoke (1971). Lightly creased and bowed. Edges lightly worn. Otherwise in fine condition.
