PAT KIRKWOOD
Signed b/w picture post card of Kirkwood from the shoulders up in a black mesh
dress
Picture post card signed "Sincerely/Pat Kirkwood" in blue ink. B/w, 3¼x5½. English photo
post card, no message on verso. Kirkwood (1921-2007) was a British star of stage who
appeared in musicals by Cole Porter and Nöel Coward. She's probably most
remembered, though, for an alleged affair with Prince Phillip in 1948, a rumor that
she denied to her death. She started acting in 1936 and debuted in London as Dandini in
1937's Cinderella, but she hit her stride at the start of World War II, when she became
famous for her rendition of Porter's My Heart belongs to Daddy in Black Velvet. After
World War II, she left for Hollywood to star in No Leave, No Love (1946) with Van
Johnson. She returned to London and to continue her stage career, including Leonard
Bernstein's London production of Wonderful Town (1955) and Coward's Hay Fever in the
1960's. Lightly toned and spotted. Signature faint but legible. Otherwise in fine condition.
