PATRICIA ELLIOTT
The soap opera actress writes to John Willis, Editor of Theatre World, on a postcard about her new play expressing her gratitude for a birthday card he sent
Autograph Letter signed: "P." in blue ink, 2p, 5x3½. In full: "Dear John - Sending many thanks for your kind thoughtfulness you are incredible to keep up with us all! - And the lovely birthday card/ and remembrance. Aren't these rich - Am I to forever be in plays holding hands and dancing ever thus…? Do you know the lady twice? Many thanks and best wishes - Sorry I left the party so soon but I'm very shy at those do's!". Patricia Elliot (1942-2015) began acting in 1968, making both her first notable stage appearance (King Lear) and her first film appearance (The Green Slime) in minor roles. She would go on to star in a number of plays, including her Tony Award-winning performance in the Stephen Sondheim musical A Little Night Music (1973). Throughout the 1990s she performed in several TV movies such as Men in White (1998) and The Ladies (1987). Elliot is perhaps best known for her recurring role as Renee Buchanan in One Life To Live (1968-2013), which she maintained from 1990 until 2011. John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Corners rounded. Toned. Slightly worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
