PATRICK VALENZUELA and CHARLES WHITTINGHAM. Photograph signed:
"Charles Whittingham" and "Patrick/Valenzuela". Color,
7¾x9¾. Jockey Valenzuela, who won the 1989 Kentucky Derby atop Sunday Silence,
is pictured in the Winner's Circle. CHARLES WHITTINGHAM, with his back to
the camera, part-owner and trainer of the horse, became the oldest
winning trainer (at age 76) that day. Sunday Silence went on to win the
Preakness, but he failed to capture the Triple Crown when Easy Goer overtook him
in the Belmont Stakes. PATRICK VALENZUELA (born in 1962) was the
youngest jockey (at age 17) to win the Santa Anita Derby, and he would go
on to rack up seven Breeders Cup victories in a career of over 3,000 wins
(Valenzuela celebrated his 3,000th career victory on December 4, 1999). Minor
surface creases (not evident head on). Fine condition.
