PATSY MONTANA, SALTY HOLMES, SLIM BLAND and NEIL BLAND
Patsy Montana, Salty Holes, Slim Bland, and Neil Bland sign a black and white with brown hue publicity photograph.
Photograph signed: "Sincerely/Neil Bland" "Slim Bland", "Salty Holmes" and "Patsy Montana" in pencil on verso. B/w with brown hue, 8x10. Photograph by Michael Denning (imprint at lower left). PATSY MONTANA (1908-1996), born Ruby Blevins, is best known for her 1935 smash country hit, "I Want to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart", said to be the first million selling recording by a female country singer. Montana, who was also known for her distinctive yodel, appeared on the WLS National Barn Dance out of Chicago, where she performed with the Prairie Ramblers. Montana, who also appeared on Louisiana Hayride, toured and recorded into the 1990s. Earlier in her career, she appeared in two feature films, Colorado Sunset (1939) and The Chime Bells Ring (1944). Guitarist and composer FLOYD "SALTY" HOLMES was a member of the Prairie Ramblers on National Barn Dance. SLIM BLAND played rhythm guitar for Bill Haley, who headed Bill Haley and the Saddlemen before they became the Comets. We were unable to find information on Neil Bland. Worthy of further research. Slightly creased at blank margins and corners. Minor surface creases and scratches (not evident head on). Light impressions from writing on verso touch facial images. Overall, fine condition.
