PATTI PALMER (EX- MRS. JERRY) LEWIS
The first wife of comedian Jerry Lewis signs this letter accepting an invitation to a Halloween party, presumably shortly after her divorce
Autograph letter signed: "Patti" in green ink. 6x8. Los Angeles, California, no date. Written on personal letterhead to "Dear Phyllis:" in full: "I'd love to come to your halloween party, 'cause you're a very special lady and I'd like to know you better. If I can find a straight [illegible], I'll bring him- (haven't really dated yet) if not, I'll bring my hairdresser who is fun- Thanks you for asking me. Love". Singer Patti Palmer Lewis (b.1920) performed with the Ted Fio Rito and Jimmy Dorsey orchestras during World War II as a featured vocalist. Shortly after marrying actor/comedian Jerry Lewis in 1944, Patti retired from entertainment to raise her six sons. She managed her first son's band Gary Lewis and the Playboys during the 1960s, helping the rock and rollers reach their first gold record in 1965. After 38 years, Jerry divorced Patti in 1982 to marry a Las Vegas dancer, which in its initial happenings caused widespread publicity. Since the separation Patti has remained much out of the public eye. Lightly toned. Horizontal crease across center. Otherwise, fine condition.
