Printed photograph signed in ink: “Best wishes,/Patty Berg” in black felt. 8x10. Golfer Patty
Berg (1918-2006), who won ten of 13 amateur tournaments in 1938, turned pro in 1940
(that year she also began promoting Wilson sporting goods). Her total of 80 victories,
including 60 career pro wins (15 majors), has not been matched by any other woman,
even though Berg served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1942-1945. A three-time Associated
Press Female Athlete of Year (1938, 1943, 1955), she helped to found the LPGA in 1948.
The organization honored her in 1978 by establishing the Patty Berg Award, which is given
to the greatest contributor to women's golf during the year. Small tear at upper right corner.
