American libraries first day cover signed and dated by the 1970 Nobel Prize in Economics winner
First Day Cover signed: "Paul A Samuelson/MIT, May 2004", 6½x3½. FDC "Saluting America's Libraries", Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, July 13, 1982, one 20ยข America's Libraries stamp affixed, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. American economist, Samuelson (1915-2009) was awarded the 1970 Nobel Prize for Economics for raising the level of scientific analysis in economic theory. Samuelson began teaching at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1940, when he became an Assistant Professor of Economics. He was named Associate Professor in 1944 and full Professor in 1947 at MIT, where he stayed until retiring in 1986. His book, Economics: An Introductory Analysis, is the most successful college textbook of all time, passing through successive editions and translated into forty languages since its original release in 1948. The previous year, Samuelson had published his first major work, Foundations of Economic Analysis. Lightly toned. Lightly soiled on verso. Pencil note (unknown hand) on verso (no show through). Otherwise in fine condition.
