Typed DS: "Paul Anka", 1p, 8½x11. No place, 1957 November
26. Headed: "Release Form". In letter form to the News Syndicate Co.,
Inc., New York, New York. Begins: "Gentlemen". In full:
"In consideration of the publicity to be given to me and which may arise
herefrom, my consent is hereby irrevocably given to you, your assignees and
licensees, and to the Chicago Tribune-New York News Syndicate, Inc., and its
subscribers and licensees, to use my name, picture, or portrait, in publications
for editorial or promotional purposes, excluding, however, commercial
advertising." Pop singer Paul Anka (b. 1941 in Ottawa, Canada) was a
successful teenage heartthrob of the late 1950s and early 1960s. His ode to a
former girlfriend, "Diana", was recorded when Anka was 16 years old. The single
hit number one on both sides of the Atlantic in 1957, eventually selling a
reported ten million copies worldwide. Anka was a successful songwriter,
music businessman and recording artist well into the 1990s. As the teen idol
craze began to cool off in the early 1960s, he bought the rights to his old
masters and made a fortune on reissues alone. Anka also diversified his career
by appearing in several films and in nightclubs. He was one of the first pop
singers to do shows in Las Vegas. Lightly creased. Fine condition.
