Inscribed photograph signed: "To/Edna/With Best Wishes/Paul
Ash", in black ink, Sepia 8x10. Bandleader Paul Ash (1891-1958) was
active in the 1920's and 1930's dance scene, sometimes titled "the Rajah of
Jazz". First putting together a dance band in Chicago in the mid 1920's,
Ash slowly began to focus more on symphonic and orchestra groups, playing in
city theatres in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and San Francisco. The long life of Paul
Ash and His Orchestra saw several prominent performers pass through their group,
employing future greats Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller, and for a time
working with the flapper idol Helen Kane. The success of his group led to an
extended stay at New York's Roxy Theatre, and several recordings made in the
late 1920's. corners worn. Slightly bowed. Faint finger print stains across
signature, does not affect legibility. Image slightly silvered. Marking across
Ash's chin in image. Otherwise, fine condition.
